Ayatollah Khamenei shows humor to Mehdi Fakhimzadeh

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has shown flashes of humor to Iranian veteran filmmaker Mehdi Fakhimzadeh.

In a video released recently of the leader meeting with the IRIB staff and several cineastes some time ago, Ayatollah Khamenei shows touches of humor to Fakhimzadeh that delights the audience.

Speaking about his rich directing credits for many applauded TV series such as ‘Guardianship of Love’ and ‘Asleep and Awake’, Fakhimzadeh points out how he attempted filmmaking before and after the Islamic revolution.

Later in his talks, Fakhimzadeh jokes about him belonging to the pre-revolution generation.

Ayatollah Khamenei then makes a light-hearted joke, telling him “You are from the Taghut time” (Persian word for pagan and refers to the time before the Islamic revolution).

“Yes, I’m of that era. I’m from Yazid’s army. But, I’m not Hurr (ibn Yazid Al-Tamimi),” Fakhimzadeh says in reply.

The 78-year-old director, who is mostly remembered by ifilm fans with two of his action TV series ‘Third Sense’ and ‘Building No. 85’, refers to the fact that he has a better understanding of Iranian cinema pre- and post-revolution compared to his fellow filmmakers.  

Fakhimzadeh began his career as a stage actor in 1969 and made his movie debut with ‘Chubby’.

After entering the film industry as an actor, he tried his hand at directing and made ‘The Courtship’ and ‘Spouse’ which were both box office hits.
