Siraf, city steeped in history

Siraf city in Iran’s Bushehr Province boasts a history tucked away in the memories of the locals and woven into the community's life.

Siraf city in Iran’s Bushehr Province sits roughly halfway along the northern shore of the Persian Gulf with a history tucked away in the memories of the locals and woven into the community's life.

Most parts of the port city are home to structures made by the endeavors of its residents who lived in Siraf thousands of years ago.

Monuments in the historical port city challenge archeologists even more regarding their long history with newly excavated artifacts from these sites.

If you get thirsty there, the locals treat you with cold water in clay jars hidden inside a pit that gathers winter rainfalls.

Another wonder of this city is the way people in the past used dug wells as deep as 150 meters to save limited groundwater so that they could use for their own consumption or sell to thirsty sailors who made a short stop in the city.
