Karama filmfest awards Iranian ‘Gabriel’

‘Gabriel’ is awarded at the 11th Karama Human Rights filmfest in Jordan.

Iranian short flick ‘Gabriel’ has been awarded at the 11th edition of the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Jordan.

Directed by Yousef Kargar, the short flick received the best short narrative film award at the Jordanian event.

The 18-minute film, made in Turkish language, tells the story of a father who has to choose between love, faith, and conscience in difficult conditions.

‘Gabriel’ has had various shooting locations, but it has mainly been filmed by the Lake Urmia located between the Iranian provinces of East Azarbaijan and West Azarbaijan.

The film has already been shown at a number of international film events, including the Berkeley Video & Film Festival in the US, the Cheongju International Short filmfest in South Korea, and the Flickers’ Rhode Island International filmfest in the US.

The main theme for the Karama Film Festival is human rights in general; children, women, refugees, political, economic, social and civic rights, and the role of films and culture in creating social and political change.

The latest edition of the fest was held on December 10-17, 2020.
