Bulgarian fest to screen Iran’s ‘The Warden’

The 2021 Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria is to screen Iranian feature ‘The Warden’.

Iranian award-winning feature ‘The Warden’ has been selected to go on screen at the 13th edition of the Sofia MENAR Film Festival (SMFF) in Bulgaria.

Directed by Nima Javidi, the 90-minute film narrates the story of a warden who has big hopes of promotion.

He has recently been assigned a mission to evacuate the prison and move the inmates into another facility.

Should he be able to accomplish his task to the fullest, he will be rewarded.

A prisoner, however, has gone missing which might bring the warden shame and bring down his dreams of promotion.

The film features popular actors such as Navid MohammadzadehParinaz IzadyarAtila PesyaniSetareh PesyaniHabib RezaeeMani Haqiqi, Esmaeel Pourreza, and Mohammad-Rasoul Safari.

The movie has gone on screen at some global events, including the Chennai International Film Festival in India, the Hainan International Film Festival in China, the International Film Festival “East & West. Classics and Avant Garde” in Russia, and the 9th International Crime and Punishment Film Festival in Turkey, where it received the special student jury award.

The SMFF presents the best films, documentaries and short films of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.

The 2021 edition of the Bulgarian festival is slated for January 15-31.
