Sofia MENAR fest to screen Iran’s ‘When the Moon Was Full’

The Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria is to screen Iranian feature ‘When the Moon Was Full’.

Iranian feature ‘When the Moon Was Full’ has been selected to go on screen at the 13th edition of the Sofia MENAR Film Festival (SMFF) in Bulgaria.

The movie, directed by Narges Abyar and produced by Mohammad-Hossein Qasemi, is an award-winning movie that recounts the true love story of Abdul-Hamid Rigi, a member of the Jundallah terrorist group.

Rigi marries Faezeh Mansouri, a woman from Tehran. Faezeh is forced to leave her homeland along with her brother, Shahab, to live in Pakistan where they find themselves involved in the Jundallah rebel activities.

Elnaz Shakerdoust, Shabnam Moqaddami, Houtan Shakiba, Fereshteh Sadr-Orafaee, Armin Rahimian, Pedram Sharifi, and Banipal Shomoun are on the cast list.

The movie was nominated in 13 categories at the 37th Fajr Film Festival and garnered six main Awards of the event, including Best Director, Best Film, Best Leading Actor (Shakiba), Best Leading Actress (Shakerdoust), Best Supporting Actress (Sadr-Orafaee), and Best Makeup.

It also won the Best Actress award, the Best Student Jury Film Award, and the Grand Prize at the 2nd International Political Film Festival of Carcassonne in France.

Atlantic Media Company has purchased the film for premiering in Turkey. Iranian Independent Films Company is responsible for the international distribution of Abyar’s film.

The SMFF presents the best films, documentaries and short films of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.

The 2021 edition of the Bulgarian festival is slated for January 15-31.

This edition of the SMFF will also screen ‘The Other’, ‘A Hairy Tale’, ‘Dance with Me’, ‘Just 6.5’, ‘The Warden’, ‘Forty Seven’, and ‘Sophomore Year of My School’, all from Iran.
