Chapel of Chupan, historical church in Iran’s Jolfa + Video

The Chapel of Chupan is a historical church in the city of Jolfa in Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province.

The chapel was founded in 1518 for shepherds and the common people who don’t have access to the church of Dare Sham region.

The Chapel of Chupan is located seven kilometers west of Jolfa City near the Aras River.

Chupan is a square-shaped small church with cross-shaped interior floor plan.

The church’s main entrance is located at the western part of the building and its altar is placed at the east end of it.

The building is made of stones and mortar and its interior walls are covered with plaster.
