Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’ wins nom US fest

The 2021 USA Film Festival nominates Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’.

The 51st edition of the USA Film Festival has nominated Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’ for the Best Short Animation award.

Directed by Amir Mehran, the eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the bodies of his soldier friends.

The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.

The short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The crew includes character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naeemi, and storyboard creator Ammar Qanbarzadeh.

The short animation participated in the 2020 Warsaw Film Festival in Poland and won the best short animation award.

According to the official website of the USA Film Festival, “it is a Dallas-based, non-profit organization dedicated to the recognition and encouragement of excellence in the film and video arts”.

The upcoming edition of the event will be held on April 21-25, 2021.
