Haft-Tappeh and Tchogha Zanbil Museum, which showcases Elamite relics and monuments, has been named as Iran’s best museum of the year.

Haft-Tappeh and Tchogha Zanbil Museum, which showcases Elamite relics and monuments, has been named as Iran’s best museum of the year.

This is for the third year in a row that Haft-Tappeh and Tchogha Zanbil Museum receive the honor based on the four indicators of maintenance and protection, introduction, education, and research.

The announcement was made concurrent with the International Museum Day.

Located 15 kilometers to the south of the ancient city of Susa, Haft-Tappeh (Seven Mounds) is a highly significant archeological site in southwest Iran.

Made a UNESCO site in 1979, the magnificent ruins of Tchogha Zanbil (Choghazanbil) is a topmost tourist destination in Iran’s Khuzestan province.

Tchogha Zanbil is considered by many the finest surviving example of Elamite architecture in the globe.  

According to UNESCO, “Tchogha Zanbil is the largest ziggurat outside of Mesopotamia and the best preserved of this type of stepped pyramidal monument.”
