‘Careless Crime’ to vie at Gässli Film Festival

Iranian movie ‘Careless Crime’ is slated to vie at the Gässli Film Festival in Basel in Switzerland.

Iranian movie ‘Careless Crime’ is slated to vie at the Gässli Film Festival in Basel in Switzerland.

Shahram Mokri’s award-winning film will compete with 16 other films from around the world at the main competition section of the 2021 edition of the event.

The 135-minute movie was internationally premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.

The Gässli Film Festival is a Swiss film festival with an international flair. As a non-profit event in the Basel region, the festival conveys a cinematic fascination and background to filmmaking.

This year’s edition of the event is scheduled for June 16-21.
