Shanghai fest is to host ‘The White Whale’

Iranian ‘The White Whale’ is to vie at the Shanghai Int’l filmfest in China.

Iranian animation ‘The White Whale’ is scheduled to compete at the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China.

The animated piece, directed by Amir Mehran, will be among the competition titles of the Chinese fest’s 24th edition.

The eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the bodies of his soldier friends.

The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.

The short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran-based Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).

The crew includes character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naimi and storyboard creator Ammar Ghanbarzadeh.

Launched in 1993, the SIFF is considered by many to be the second biggest film festival in Asia.

This year’s edition of the event is scheduled for June 11-20, 2021.
