UK OXISFF to show Iran’s ‘Mermaid’

Iran’s ‘Mermaid’ is to participate in the Oxford Int’l Short filmfest in the UK.

Iranian short flick ‘Mermaid’ has been scheduled to participate in the Oxford International Short Film Festival (OXISFF) in the UK.

Written and directed by Saber Mostafapour, the film will hit the screen at the Lure of the Sea section of the 3rd edition of the British fest.

‘Mermaid’ tells the story of a high school boy named Milad who is a female inside.

He drops out to gain his true identity. That is when some of her villain classmates follow her and make it rough for her.

Mehr-Ali Qazvini, Amir Ahangar, Meisam Vahhabi, Mahla Eslami, Mohammad-Reza Kia, Hamid-Reza Jafari, Ali Solqani and Tahereh Fard are the cast members of the short flick.

The film has already been shown at a number of global events, including the Pink City International Short filmfest in India and the Bordeaux Shorts: International Fest of 1-Minute Films and Short Films in France.

Both events granted awards to the flick with the Indian fest picking Qazvini as the best actor and the French event handing out its Grand Prix Special to the short flick.

The Oxford International Short Film Festival “celebrates the diversity and creativity of short films”, the event’s website reads, adding “We would like to encourage short films from all filmmakers in any genre (including documentaries). We're looking for great stories which stir the emotions, have strong characters, and unique voices or evocative worlds.”

The 2021 edition of the festival will run on 27 August-4 September.
