Let’s get updated with latest and greatest honors by Iranian cinema.

Let’s get updated with the latest and greatest events in Iranian cinema industry during the last week.

The Florida Animation Festival in the US honored Iranian short flick ‘The Rotation’. Directed and produced by Hazhir Asadi, the 7-minute animation received an Honorable Mention at the “Audience Favorites – We Need to Talk” category of the US event.

‘The Rotation’ shows two tribes that engage in a tug-of-war to possess the sun and moon. None of the sides can defeat the other and their conflict wreaks havoc on the Earth’s climate. An eventual ceasefire brings temporary stability and harmony until unexpected events renew the cycle of conflict and destruction. It is a film about the futility of war and the folly of human efforts to dominate nature.

Iranian movie ‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ won an award at the 2021 Houston Asian American Pacific Islander Film Festival in the US. Directed by Javad Daraee and produced by Mehdi Kouhzadeh, the film grabbed the Grand Jury Award of 17th edition of the event held in June.

‘Metamorphosis in the Slaughterhouse’ is about Shadi. When her parents were accused of murdering a girl and thus killed by the villagers, Shadi was only a little girl. She was, then, adopted by her uncle and grew up. Shadi must now face the problems that the village residents have caused.

The Ignite Film Festival in the UK awarded the acclaimed Iranian short animation ‘Malakout’ (Divinity). The filmfest organizers announced on Tuesday the short flick was picked as the best animation at the 2021 edition of the event held in Swindon, a town in southwestern England. The award for best sound design also went to Sorush Abedi for ‘Malakout’.

Directed by Farnouosh Abedi, the 11-minute ‘Malakout’ is about a piano player who has lost one of his hands, trying to bring his wife back to life, and can’t play the piano anymore. Doctors decide to transplant a dead criminal’s hand to his body. The new hand awakens the devil inside him and the pianist starts killing people.
