Commemorating Safi al-Din Ardabili, UNESCO-registered memorial of Safavid dynasty

Under the pretext of the national commemoration day of Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili held on July 26, iFilm English website has introduced this philosopher and religious leader of the 13th and 14th century. 

Located in the Iranian province of Ardabil, the Safi al-Din Ardabili World Religious Complex is a collection of tombs of famous people as well as ritual and worship places. Some kings of the Safavid dynasty have been buried there as well.

The complex was named after the famous mystic Safi al-Din Ardabili, which was built in 735 AH by his son Sadr al-Din Mousa.   

The Safi al-Din Ardabili World Religious Complex has been registered as the 11th historical-cultural monument of Iran in August 2010 in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The complex is a symbol of Iranian cultural and architectural values and is one of the important cultural and historical tourism capacities in Ardabil Province.   

Sheikh Safi al-Din Ardabili was the grandfather of the kings of the Safavid dynasty, who had top spiritual position and founded Safaviyya movement, whose followers put on red hats; so, they were called Ghezelbash (red head).
