Iranians celebrate Eid al-Ghadir

Muslims in Iran and across the world are celebrating Eid al-Ghadir.

Millions of Muslims in Iran and across the world are celebrating Eid al-Ghadir.

Eid al-Ghadir is observed on the 18th day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah, which falls on Thursday this year.

Eid al-Ghadir marks the day when the Prophet of Islam [PBUH] appointed Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) as his successor and Muslims’ next leader.

On the eve of the auspicious occasion, Iranians decorate the streets.

Some people also opt to mark Eid al-Ghadir in the holy city of Mashhad, which is home to the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.

Here are some photos showing decorated Iranian streets and the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS).
