Iranian feature '180° Rule’ wins 2 awards at Beirut fest

Iranian feature ‘180° Rule’  has gained two awards at Beirut International Women Film Festival in Lebanon.

The flick directed by Iranian female director Farnoush Samadi won awards for Best Feature Film and Best Ensemble Cast at the International Competition section of the event, held in late July.

“Sara and her husband Hamed together with their little daughter have been invited to a wedding in the north of Iran, but Hamed cannot travel due to work-related problems and this is the beginning of an incident that changes Sara’s life,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The film is starring Sahar Dolatshahi, Pejman Jamshidi, Azita Hajian, and Hassan Pourshirazi.

‘180° Rule’ has so far won a number of awards at some global events, including the 2020 edition of the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada and the 2020 edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival in Spain.

The 180-degree rule entails keeping the camera on one side of an imaginary axis, a side that only encompasses 180 degrees and thus creates an understandable orientation of characters and objects on the other side. "'180 Degree Rule' doesn’t violate its eponymous inspiration in terms of cinematic language," a review says.

The 2021 Beirut International Women Film Festival was held under the theme of “Women for Leadership” highlighting the role of women as leaders in their societies. The event was created, developed and executed by the Beirut Film Society.
