Turkmen rugs are an ancient heritage in Iran that enjoys worldwide popularity and fame.

One of the main characteristics of Turkmen carpets is their texture.

Most of the hand-woven carpets in Iran are made of cotton yarns, but the yarns used in making the Turkmen rugs are made of sheep wool.

After weaving a Turkmen carpet, the stage of shortening the lint begins.

Here are photos showing the process of adding finishing touches to Turkmen rugs in the city of Aq Qala in Iran’s Golestan Province.

Iran is home to one of the earliest and greatest civilizations in the world with different ethnic groups having their own traditions and customs.

Turkmen have their own traditional ceremonies and costumes unique to this ethnic minority in Iran.

In addition to Turkmen, the Iranian population is made up of other ethnicities such as Persian, Kurd, Lur, Arab, Baluch, and Azeri.

While Persian is the official language of Iran, these groups speak different dialects and languages.
