Tabriz Historic Bazaar worn in black for mourning of Muharram

Tabriz Historic Bazaar is all in black to observe the mourning rituals of Muharram.

People all over Iran have started to observe the mourning rituals for Muharram.

The first ten days of the month of Muharram are the time for the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH], as well as his loyal companions in the Battle of Karbala.

People in the Iranian city of Tabriz have also elegantly decorated the city’s Historic Bazaar Complex for the month of Muharram.

The Tabriz Historic Bazaar Complex that encompasses a series of interconnected, covered, brick structures, buildings, and enclosed spaces is inscribed on UNESCO world list.

Tabriz was capital of Iran during the Safavid era (13th century). At that time, the city and its bazar were busy and renowned and also one of the important centers on the Silk Road.
