Azadi Tower in Tehran hosts ‘Tazieh of Sun’

Azadi Tower in Tehran hosts ‘Tazieh of Sun’ as a ritual of Muharram.

With the arrival of the mourning month of Muharram, Iranians have gathered to perform various rituals for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS).

The first ten days of the month of Muharram are the time to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and the grandson of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH], as well as his loyal companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Tazieh or Tazieh-Khani is one of the rituals held in Muharram in Iran. Wearing special clothes and reading verses related to the massacre on the plains of Karbala, the performers of Tazieh reenact the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

‘Tazieh of Sun’ was held in different locations in the Iran’s capital city of Tehran, observing COVID-19 health protocols.
