Iranians hold Tasua mourning ritual in cars

Iranian people have held Tasua mourning rituals in a car march in Tehran.

This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, Tasua mourning procession has forced the people to carry out the event in their cars, under the tight observance of the health protocols, not only in Tehran but across the country.

The drive-in march mourners participated in the ceremony to pay their tributes and respect to Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and his loyal companions in the Battle of Karbala.

Tasua, on the Islamic calendar, marks a tragic incident on the ninth day of Muharram when Abbas ibn Ali (AS), Imam Hussein’s brother, was martyred on the 10th day of Muharram in Karbala as he went to fetch water for Imam Hussein's children, the 6-month infant child Ali Asghar included, who were suffering thirst.

The army of then-tyrant Yazid banned water to Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions as of the 7th day of Muharram until Ashura, the day 10 of the month.
