Belmondo who played roles from thug to police officer passed away on Monday, shocking fans in France and across the world.

A tribute ceremony at Les Invalides, the national memorial site in Paris, was held Thursday for the world-famous actor.

When the actor’s coffin came out at the ceremony, the orchestra of the Republican Guard played a music piece by Ennio Morricone on the soundtrack of ‘The Professional’ film starring the screen legend.

 Actor Jean-Paul Belmondo, one of French cinema's biggest stars died at the age of 88 in his Paris home.

In 2016, the Venice Film Festival awarded Belmondo, the star of France's New Wave cinema, a Golden Lion for lifetime achievement.

France President Emmanuel Macron made a speech paying tribute to the late icon at the ceremony, which was both solemn and popular.

The touching national homage drew applause and tears from fans, stars and the actor's family.
