Iran’s first Arabic-language film ‘Sami’ wins Kazan fest award

‘Sami’, the first Arabic-language film of Iranian cinema, has succeeded to win the Award for Best Screenplay in the main competition section of the 17th Kazan International Film Festival in Russia.

‘Sami’, the first Arabic-language film of Iranian cinema, has succeeded to win the Award for Best Screenplay in the main competition section of the 17th Kazan International Film Festival in Russia.

Directed by Habib Bavisajed, ‘Sami’, as the only representative of Iran's cinema, won the award in the main section of ‘full-length feature’.

'Sami' is the first Khuzestani Arabic feature film in the history of Iranian cinema.

Set in Khuzestan Province, which is home to Iranian Arabs, ‘Sami’ is about a man’s love for his wife and how he cannot accept the fact that she died twenty years ago.

The film’s participation at Kazan International Muslim Film Festival marked its debut premiere.

The Kazan International Muslim Film Festival aims to provide a platform for those working in the field of culture and arts in Russia and Muslim countries to exchange their experiences, displaying the creative achievements of the Muslim cinematographers, among others.

The event was held with the motto of “To the dialogue of cultures through the culture of dialogue” on September 5-10, 2021 in Kazan of Russia.
