Tehran hosting exhibit of Persian enamel art

The headquarters of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts in Tehran has been hosting a number of 150 exquisite works of Iranian vitreous enamel at the ‘Image and Fire’ exhibition.

Organized by the country’s Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, the exhibition is the first of its kind showcasing the Iranian vitreous enamel works (Minakari) that have been handcrafted over the past 50 years by various Iranian masters some of whom have now sadly passed away.

Iranian artists whose works are currently on display at the exhibition include Ahamd Raez, Abbas Jalali Sousan-Abadi, Parvaneh Naraqi, Maryam Sheikh-Mehdi, Mostafa Akhavas, Gholam-Hossein Fayzollahi, Nastaran Borjian, Shahla Asadiyani, Fatemeh Sadat Houriaband, Sahar Hassankhani, Neda Khalat-Abadi, and Maryam Mesgarian.

Minakari (vitreous enamel or porcelain enamel) is an ancient art of painting natural motifs such as flowers and birds on the surface of metals, mostly copper.

Over the ages, the art of Minakari has fascinated many famed people including French traveler Jean Chardin and American orientalist Arthur Pope.

Isfahan is one of the traditional hubs of the craft in Iran. The prices are diverse; therefore, you can either spend a lot or little money on these special pieces of art.

The exhibit will last until October 9, 2021.
