Iranians mark death anniv. of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Muslims in Iran commemorate the death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS), the second Shia Imam.

The death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS) are observed on the 28th day of the Islamic lunar month of Safar, which falls on Tuesday, this year.

People hold mourning rituals on the 28th day of Safar.

Benefactors also distribute Nazri (votive) food such as Sholezard to mark the two occasions.

Sholezard (shown below) is a traditional dessert mainly made of rice, sugar and saffron.
