Warsaw filmfest hosting ‘Two Dogs’ from Iran

The 37th edition of the Warsaw International Film Festival (WIFF) in Poland has been playing host to Iranian movie ‘Two Dogs’.

Directed by Amir Azizi and produced by famous Iranian actor Navid Mohammadzadeh, the movie is about Iman and Sajjad, two young men struggling with contemporary problems typical for 30-year-olds: unemployment, depression and lack of self-confidence.

Iman is translating Franz Kafka’s ‘Investigations of a Dog’ into Farsi and works as a cab driver as well. His passengers are similar to the characters of Kafka’s story.

Sajjad, Iman’s best friend, is very inhibited because of the way he looks and is trying to obtain enough money for surgery.

They both have dogs that look very similar to their owners. The dogs, not always welcomed by the families, make the men feel less lonely living in a traditional society.

The cast list of the 83-minute drama includes Iman Sayyad-Borhani, Ali Baqeri, Sajjad Hamidian, Maryam Palizban, Masoumeh Beygi, and Soheila Golestani.

Born in 1984 in Ahvaz, Azizi started his film career in 2003 as an assistant director for a number of famous directors. He has made a few documentaries and short films. His debut feature film ‘Temporary’ (2015) was screened at many international festivals. ‘Two Dogs’ is his second feature film.

Established in 1985, the Warsaw Film Festival does its best to make sure that its audience members get to know the latest and most interesting trends in world cinema as soon as possible. In this way, the WIFF audience could discover American independent cinema as well as Asian, Latin American, Iranian, Russian, and Romanian cinema.

The 2021 edition of the WIFF has been slated for October 8-17.
