Three Iranian features participating at SCHLiNGEL IFF

Iranian features are competing at the 26 SCHLiNGEL Int’l Film Festival for Children and Young Audience in Germany.

A lineup of three Iranian features, including ‘Sun Children’ by Majid Majidi, have been competing at the 26 SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience in Germany.

Iranian films ‘Sun Children’, ‘Wolf Cubs of the Apple Valley’, and ‘Playful’ are participating in different categories of the German festival.

‘Sun Children’ is taking part in the Junior Film category of the SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival.

The film is about child labor. It narrates the story of a 12-year-old boy and his three friends, who have been asked by a neighborhood crime boss to find a treasure buried underground.

The film was one of the winners of the Collateral Awards at the 77th Venice International Film Festival in Italy. ‘Sun Children’ also brought Rouhollah Zamani, one of the teenagers who took part in the movie, the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor at the Italian event. The movie was also named the Best Film at the 38th Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

Meanwhile, ‘Playful’ by Nadereh Torkamani is taking part in the Children’s Film category at the SCHLiNGEL IFF.

“Shahin and his friends want to start a football team. To make money for jerseys and shoes, they fatten geese. The bag of coarsely ground wholemeal that the new boy in the village has put in front of the door is just right for them. But the food is poison for the animals,” a synopsis for the film reads.

In the Panorama category of the German event, Iranian film ‘Wolf Cubs of the Apple Valley’ by Fereydoun Najafi is taking part.

“Asho is in danger. Since his father was accused of murder, he has to live undercover as the girl Sogol. Together with his cousin Pari Asho heads off to the Apple Valley to find his presumed dead mother,” a synopsis for the film reads.

The 26th edition of the SCHLiNGEL International Film Festival for Children and Young Audience opened on Saturday and will run until October 16.
