Ojai filmfest to host Iran’s ‘The Recess’

Iranian ‘The Recess’ is to be screened at the Ojai filmfest in the US.

Acclaimed Iranian short flick ‘The Recess’ has been scheduled to hit the screen at the Ojai Film Festival in the US.

The 12-minute film, written, produced and directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, will be screened at the narrative shorts section of the 22nd edition of the US event.

‘The Recess’ tells the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are on the cast list of the flick.

Kordi won the award for the best performance for her role in ‘The Recess’ at the 33rd Living Skies Student Film Festival in Canada.

The film has already toured a number of global film events, including the Oxford Film Festival and the Garden State Film Festival, both in the US, as well as the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria.

The Ojai Film Festival “has a reputation for showcasing the best new films from emerging and established filmmakers”, according to an online submission platform.

The festival “provides audiences a diverse lineup of titles from around the world, including many groundbreaking works that would otherwise be inaccessible. At the same time, it gives filmmakers access to a highly appreciative audience of savvy and informed film fans”.

The 22nd edition of the event will take place on November 4-14.
