Leo Tolstoy’s ‘Anna Karenina’ to be staged in Tehran

Leo Tolstoy’s Play Anna Karenina is to be staged at Tehran’s Iranshahr Theater.

Leo Tolstoy’s Play Anna Karenina has been scheduled to go on stage at Tehran’s Iranshahr Theater.

Iranian young playwright, theater director and actor Arash Abbasi works on the play for the stage.

Russian writer Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) wrote the novel ‘Anna Karenina’ and this play is based on Tolstoy’s novel.

Arash Abbasi has managed to associate  his performance with new atmosphere. The youg director said that his script is modern and reflects today’s condition.

Abbasi believes that although he has not changed the main theme of the novel, the performance will be absolutely unique. He added that the décor and costumes have also been designed by himself.

“The rest of the plot is my own doing. I’ve always believed that I should stage classical works of literature in a form quite different from the original. In fact, it is the idea that matters most in classical works;” Abbasi said.

The theater is located next to Iranian Artists Forum on Iranshahr Street.
