The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for the 94th Oscars in 10 categories on Tuesday, while Iranian movie ‘A Hero’ is shortlisted in the international feature film category. Directed by two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi, the movie is also shortlisted for the Best Picture – Non-English Language category at the 79th edition of the Annual Golden Globe Awards.
‘A Hero’ is about Rahim, a working-class man separated from his first wife, with whom he has a stuttering young son, who has spent three years incarcerated for defaulting on a debt, but is given leave for two days, during which he tries to turn around his fortunes, but quickly finds himself caught in a web of white lies.
Iranian-French short animation ‘The Musician’ (Le Musicien) by Reza Riahi is announced qualified in the animated short category of the 2022 US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Riahi’s awards-contending ‘The Musician’ (Navozande) is a 15-minute stop-motion short made of paper cut-outs. It centers on two young lovers in ancient Persia who are tragically fallen apart during a vicious attack on their land, only to meet again by chance in their old age.
Iranian short films ‘Slaughter’, ‘Silence’ and ‘Song Sparrow’ won 11 awards at the 7th edition of the Emirates Short Film Festival.
Co-directed by Ako Zand-Karimi and Saman Hosseinpour. 'Slaughter’ grabbed three awards. Directed by Vahab Qaeeni, ‘Silence’ also garnered three awards. Produced and written by Farzaneh Omidvarnia, ‘Song Sparrow’ won awards in five categories.
