Let’s get updated with latest on Iranian culture and art of cinema.

Let’s get updated with the latest events in Iranian culture and art of cinema during the past week.

The 2022 Chicago Indie Critics in the US released its list of nominees, while award-winning Iranian flick ‘A Hero’ won a nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film award and Farhadi is shortlisted for the Best Original Screenplay award.

‘A Hero’ is also longlisted for the upcoming British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in the UK.

Leading US entertainment publication Variety honored Farhadi with the 2021 Creative Impact in Directing Award for the movie.

“I’m so honored to receive this award from Variety,” Farhadi said, adding “The general idea with this film was to make the directing as invisible as possible, so it makes me very happy to get this award.”

‘A Hero’ is about Rahim, a divorced man who has been imprisoned due to unpaid debts. During a two-day leave, Rahim tries to prove that he is a good person.

Iranian short flick ‘Goodbye Olympics’ won an award at the Sandbar International Film Awards in Ireland. The first directorial experience of Mojtaba Pourbakhshi won the silver award for best film.

The film is about a female athlete who faces many challenges in her journey to the Olympics. “Maria is a Kayaking champion waiting to leave for a race held in France which is an Olympics Qualifying event. The departure of her team will be canceled over some emerging problems,” a brief synopsis for the flick reads.
