Close-up Film Festival to screen Iranian ‘AniMal’

The Close-up Film Festival in Canada is to screen Iranian short ‘AniMal’.

The 2022 edition of the Close-up Film Festival in Canada has been set to screen Iranian acclaimed short flick ‘AniMal’.

The 15-minute film by Bahram and Bahman Ark is about a man who wants to pass the border illegally; so he hunts a ram and decides to escape disguised as the animal.

The film won the second prize at the Cannes Film Festival, the best short film award at the Avanca Film Festival in Portugal, best fiction prize at the Globe Silent Filmfest in the US, and best short film award at the MOOOV Filmfest in Belgium.

‘AniMal’ was picked as the best film at the Tehran International Short Film Festival, best short at the Iran Cinema Celebration, best short film at the Izmir Short film festival in Turkey, and best short film at International Festival of Audio Visual programs in France.

The short film also went on screen at several global events, including the Cambridge Film Festival in the UK, the San Diego Asian Film Festival in the US, the Poitiers Film Festival in France, the du nouveau cinéma Film Festival in Canada, the Denver Film Festival in the US, the Cinemas d’Iran in France, the Palm Springs International Festival in the US, the International Documentary & Short Film Festival of Kerala in India, the Brno 16 international short film festival in the Czech Republic, the REGARD-Saguenay International Short Film Festival in Canada, and the Athens International Film and Video Festival in the US.

The Valencia International Film Festival in Spain, the Fantastic Film Festival in the US, the Calgary International Film Festival in Canada, the Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the MedFilm Festival in Italy are among the other international experiences of ‘AniMal’.

A collection of the best Iranian short films is scheduled to be premiered at the 2022 Close-up Film Festival with the collaboration of Coquitlam Public Library, City Centre Branch in Vancouver.

The screenings will be held on March 12 when Iranians are getting ready to celebrate the New Year.
