Ljublijana fest screening ‘Tonight’s Homework’

Iran’s ‘Tonight’s Homework’ is going on screen at the Ljublijana Doc filmfest in Slovenia.

Iranian movie ‘Tonight’s Homework’ (Evening Task) has been going on screen at the Ljublijana Documentary Film Festival (FDF) in Slovenia.

Co-directed by Ashkan Nejati and Mehran Nematollahi, the film is among the competition titles being screened at the 24th edition of the Slovenian event.

The late Abbas Kiarostami, Iran’s legendary filmmaker, made his documentary ‘Homework’ in 1989. He asked children at the beginning of primary school about their learning habits and whether they prefer to do homework or watch cartoons, how their parents punish them and how they will raise their children in the movie. The film gave an insight into Iranian society during the Iraq-Iran War.

According to the official website, thirty years later, in ‘Tonight’s Homework’, “teachers who are asked by the way are still of the opinion that the school system is bad, they complain about illiterate or overworked parents who do not provide their children with the necessary support, which only exacerbates the problems with growing social disparities”.

‘Tonight’s Homework’ has already participated in the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in the Netherlands.

The FDF casts a relevant and diversified insight into the world’s current documentary film production.

This year’s edition of the fest started on March 09 and is set to wrap up on March 16.
