Kerala fest in India to showcase Iran’s ‘Drowning in Holy Water’

Iranian film ‘Drowning in Holy Water’ is set to appear at the 26th International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) in India.

Navid Mahmoudi’s production is a romantic drama about some young Afghans who go from Iran to Europe.

Produced by Jamshid Mahmoudi, ‘Drowning in Holy Water’ features Ali Shademan, Neda Jebraeeli, Matin Heidarnia, Mahtab Jafari, Farid Eshaqi, Mahya Rezaee, Fatemeh Mirzaee, and Alireza Mehran.

A synopsis of the film reads, “Rona: Hamed, don’t fear the sea. If you are afraid of anything, it’s more likely that it will happen to you.

Hamed: I don’t.”

The movie was screened at the 38th Fajr Film Festival in Iran, winning nominations in two categories of the best actor and actress in a leading role.

‘Drowning in Holy Water’ is the recipient of the Kim Jiseok award at the 25th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea.

The flick also went on screen at the 10th Iranian Film Festival Australia (IFFA) and the 2021 Iranian Film Festival Cologne (Visions of Iran) in Germany.

The IDSFFK is aimed to attract the participation of both filmmakers and viewers in order to create dialogues and debates.

The 26th Int’l Film Festival of Kerala, which is originally held in December every year, has been rescheduled to March 18-25, 2022 in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of the southern Indian state of Kerala due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Following the government guidelines, the film festival will be held under Covid-19 protocols.
