Today, March 20, is the end of the Persian year and the beginning of a new century in Solar Calendar.

As the most important national event, the start of spring marks the first day of Persian New Year reminding everyone of a new life and rebirth.

On this day, people visit the elderly to spend the first hours of the year together in a warm friendly atmosphere with family members.

During Nowruz, the street celebrations bring together people who often do not even know each other. This is supposed to be one of the busiest times of the year when people get together and visit their families.

On this day, everyone wear their new clothes and appear in their best outfit to display happiness and gratitude.

Nowruz celebrations last 13 days, beginning with the first day of spring and culminating with a picnic.

Nowruz was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. It has been recognized as an international day by the UN General Assembly since 2010.
