‘Walnut Tree’ participating at UMFF

Iranian feature ‘Walnut Tree’ has been participating in the Ulju Mountain Film Festival (UMFF) in South Korea.

Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian’s film that address the ugliness of war is taking part in the festival’s Asian Competition section.

“Sardasht, a Kurdish city in the Iran/Iraq border, along with a number of villages in the surrounding areas are attacked with chemical weapons by Iraqi forces in 1987. Ghader, a villager from the area and his pregnant wife, as well as his three young children, are exposed to the chemicals and suffer injuries. Ghader has to singlehandedly try to keep his family alive,” a synopsis for the film reads.

Earlier reports said Iranian-Korean documentary ‘Land of Demons’ by Komeil Soheili and Iranian film ‘Until Tomorrow’ are also taking part in the UMFF.

The Ulju Mountain Film Festival is “the first international mountain film festival in South Korea”, website of the event reads.

The festival is “dedicated to present and promote films and culture dealing with mountains, adventure, exploration, nature, and the environment”.

The 7th edition of the UMFF opened on April 1 and will run until April 10.
