Garmsar County in Iran’s northern province of Semnan is home to salt mines that produce 80 percent of Iran’s salt.

As Garmsar is known for its hot, semi-arid climate, the salt mines attract tourists in summer and winter.

Besides the beauty of salt formations, those mines have supposed health benefits.

To the north of Garmsar City, there is a tourist area called Baneh Kouh that is home to Estanavand Castle and Gabri Castle, among other attractions.

Baneh Kouh is historically important as it is located at the entrance of an ancient road that connects Garmsar, which was known as Khar, to Mazandaran Province.
