A 4,000-year-old cave has been discovered by a team of Iranian archaeologists in Palang Darreh, a village in Rudbar, northern Iranian province of Gilan.

As noted by the provincial tourism chief, the cave is almost seven meters long and one meter wide and it is estimated to date back to four thousand years ago.

The cave is said to be located in a route inaccessible without special equipment.

According to archeological visits and studies, a number of objects and relics were found in the newly-found cave, dating back to the Bronze Age.

Gilan Province is popular for its rich Iron Age cemeteries such as Marlik that have been excavated over the past century.

More than 1,200 ancient sites of Gilan have been so far registered on Iran’s National Heritage List.

A case in this is Darband Rashi Cave which was found in Siahrud region of Rudbar, the oldest human settlement of Iran which goes back to 230,000 years ago.

The results of the archeological studies carried out in Darband Rashi Cave have been published in the international journals of Harvard University, French universities and Iranian journals of archeology and geology.
