Croatian fest to host Iranian ‘Where the Winds Die’

Iranian animation ‘Where the Winds Die’ has been selected to compete at the 32nd edition of the World Festival of Animated Film (Animafest Zagreb) in Croatia.

Directed by Pejman Alipour, ‘Where the Winds Die’ is a 13-minute animation about the chemical attack by the Iraqi regime on the Iranian town of Sardasht, in West Azarbaijan Province, in 1987.

Sardasht is the first city in the world that was a victim of a chemical attack.  

The animation is a poetic coverage of life in Sardasht three months before the attack, at the moment of the attack, and thirty years after the disaster.

The animation has previously participated in some international festivals, including the Music Film Festival in France and the Athens ANIMFEST in Greece.

Established in 1972, the Animafest Zagreb has consistently influenced and greatly contributed to the artistic life in Zagreb, as well as the promotion of animation art throughout the world.

The festival is open to creative animation, in all its different forms – from traditional drawings, to stop motion, and CGI, to most experimental cross-media explorations.

The 2022 edition of the event will take place online on June 6-11.
