‘Laboratory No. 2’ to vie at Polish Krakow filmfest

Iran-Iraqi doc ‘Laboratory No. 2’ is to vie at the Krakow filmfest in Poland.

Iran-Iraqi short documentary film ‘Laboratory No. 2’ has been slated to take part in the Krakow Film Festival in Poland.

Co-directed by Idris Abdi and Agah Omar, the short doc will be on screen at the main competition section of the Polish event’s 62nd run.

The film is about the life and career of Kak Mohammad Towfiq in the College of Medicine- University of Sulaimani. It has been around 14 years that the man works with the corpse at the department of anatomy. Every single day, he preps the corpse for the students and teachers.

A while after he retires, he is asked to go back to work again as no one can perform his job. In his will, Kak Mohammad Towfiq asks his body to be used at the university after his death.

The film has already been showcased at various international events, including the Slemani International Film Festival in Iraq, the Big Sky Film Festival in the US and the Angelica Film Festival in the US.

According to the official website of the festival, “Krakow Film Festival is one of the oldest events in the world dedicated to documentary, animated and short and feature films”.

The event presents around 250 films from around the world to the audience.

The Polish festival will be held on May 29-June 05. It is also set to have online screenings from June 3 to 12.
