Iran is set to celebrate its national cultural heritage week, which begins on Wednesday.

The second day of the cultural heritage week is concurrent with the International Museum Day, which provides a unique opportunity for the international museum community.

International Museum Day is observed on May 18 every year to raise awareness among people about the museums.

“Museums are an important means of cultural exchange and the development of mutual understanding, cooperation, and peace among people,” according to the official website of International Council of Museums (ICOM).

Each year there is a specific theme for International Museum Day. The theme for International Museum Day 2022 is “The Power of Museums” meaning museums have the power to transform the world around us.

Various exhibitions, meetings, workshops, and festivals have been organized to mark Iran’s rich heritage from the early civilizations through to the modern era.

Iran hosts some of the world’s oldest cultural monuments including bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, bathhouses, madrasas, gardens, and rich natural and rural landscapes, 26 of which are UNESCO World Heritage.
