‘No Substitute’ on way to Vaasa filmfest in Finland

Iranian short animation ‘No Substitute’ has found its way to the Vaasa Wildlife Festival in Finland.

Abdollah Alimorad’s short film with French title of ‘Le Chameau et le Menuier’ (literally translated as ‘The Camel and the Miller’ in English) is selected to compete at the Animation Films section of the 11th edition of the fest.The 15-minute film, made applying stop motion technique, has been digitally cinematographed.

‘No Substitute’ tells the story of a traditional oil mill run by an old man and his camel. When the animal falls sick, the old man replaces it with his motor vehicle.

Regarding the fact that there is jealousy amongst animals and camels are famous for holding grudge against the ones who trespass their limits, the animal reacts to this substitution and that is where the story begins.Alimorad is an internationally recognized filmmaker who has already won various awards at some of the most prestigious film events.

In 2001, his short film ‘Bahador’ grabbed the Grand Prix for best short film at the Junior section of the Cannes Film Festival.

He has also won awards at the Carrousel International filmfest in Canada, the Heydarabad International filmfest in India, the Berlin International filmfest in Germany and the Cairo International filmfest for Children in Egypt.

Earlier reports said Iranian films ‘The Roots’, ‘Karun’, ‘Coexist’ and ‘Echo’ will also participate in the Finnish event.

The Vaasa Wildlife Festival is an international nature film festival. It was founded in 2002.

The gala screens works themed on climate change, people's relationship with nature and conservation.

The 11th edition of the festival will kick off on September 28 and run until October 2.
