Muslims marking Day of Arafa +Video

Millions of Muslims around the world mark the Day of Arafa, one of the cornerstones of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

The Day of Arafa is marked on the 9th day of the lunar Hijri month of Dhul Hajja which falls on Friday this year.

Since the early hours of Friday, people began ascending Mount Arafat, also known as Mount of Mercy, near Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Pilgrimage is a manifestation of unity among Muslims. It is one of pillars of Islam that Muslims who can afford it should perform at least once in their lifetimes.

Pilgrims will perform other religious rituals over the upcoming few days which mark Eid al-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice).
