‘The Lonesome West’ on stage in Tehran

Black comedy ‘The Lonesome West’ written by English playwright Martin McDonagh’s has been scheduled to go on stage from June 28 at Niavaran Cultural Center in Tehran.

English black comedy ‘Lonesome West,’ written by contemporary English playwright, screenwriter and film director of Irish descent Martin McDonagh, is to go on stage by Iranian theater actor and director Ali Pilevar.

The play depicts a harsh, totally unromantic small-town portrayal of Ireland derived from McDonagh’s own complicated relationship with his British and Irish cultural identity.

The Lonesome West ran on Broadway in 1999 and received a Tony Award nomination for Best Play in 1999.
