Twelve Shabikhani or Ta'zieh (Persian passion play inspired by tragic and epic events of Karbala) performances have been taking place on July 27-28 with the presence of groups from Nigeria and Iraq and Iranian groups from provinces of Isfahan, Qazvin, Markazi, Qom, and Tehran.
The purpose of holding these ceremonies is to deepen the school of Imam Hussein (AS) using art and religious rituals.
These performances are held in the outer area of the Tehran City Theater, Imam Hussein Square, and the Khavaran Cultural Center, thanks to the efforts of the Ashura International Foundation.
The Nigerian lamentation group is led by Morteza Jibrin. Also, the group from Iraq has been performing under the supervision of Ali al-Aboudi
Ta'zieh is a Shia ritual that portrays the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his family and companions in Karbala city, Iraq.
