Mir-Baqeri to depict Ashura tragedy in ‘Immortal’

Iranian filmmaker Davoud Mir-Baqeri has been writing a movie script to depict Ashura tragedy in ‘Immortal’.

The new movie is being written based on the bestselling novel ‘The Immortal’ on the tragedy of Ashura.

Written by Sadeq Karamyar, ‘The Immortal’ was published in two editions, one in the form of a novel and the other in the form of a screenplay, which was never rendered into a film.

The film producer Mohsen Ali-Akbari recently said during a press release Mir-Baqeri is writing his own script based on the novel, and Shahriyar Bahrani will make the film.

“Despite his immersion in the TV series ‘Salman Farsi’ Mir-Baqeri agreed to write the screenplay due to his love of Imam Hussein (AS),” he added.

The producer also noted that “The story of ‘The Immortal’ has been exactly documented with concrete facts about the Battle of Karbala.”

“The story begins with Imam Hussein’s journey from Medina to Kufa, during which many people join him and are influenced by him, and the developments make the story really interesting,” Ali-Akbari added.

He called ‘The Immortal’ a big-budget project and Iran’s third movie ever made about the battle of Karbala, adding “We need the country’s cultural managers’ collaboration to make an outstanding work for the Iranian cinema.”

Born in 1959, Mir-Baqeri graduated from Amirkabir University of Technology in Mining Engineering. After taking a three-year theater course in “Theater-e Shahr” (City Theater), he built his stage and television career simultaneously in 1980.

He made his directorial debut with the social comedy ‘Snowman’ in 1994 and has directed and/or written movies such as ‘The Miracle of Laughter’, ‘Barani’, and ‘The Visitor of Rey’.

He has also made a number of series, including ‘The Wolves’, ‘Rana’, ‘Imam Ali (AS)’, ‘Lost Innocence’ and ‘Mokhtarnameh’.
