An Iranian Quran reciter has been named finalist in an international Quran competition in Turkey.

Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) announced that Vahid Khazaei from Iran is named finalist in the Quran recitation category of the 8th edition of the contest, according to Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization.

The preliminary stage of the competition was held virtually in July.

After assessing submitted audio files, Khazaei made his way to the final stage of the event which will be held in person in Konya city in the upcoming weeks.

Another Iranian identified as Hossein Khani is taking part in the competition’s memorization category. The names of the finalists in that category will be announced soon.

Organized by Turkey’s Directorate of Religious Affairs (Diyanet), the competition is held annually.

The 7th edition of the contest took place in 2019, but the competition was suspended for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
