Iran’s ‘Urgent Cut Off’ is to vie at the Dhaka Int’l filmfest in Bangladesh.

Iranian feature film ‘Urgent Cut Off’ has been slated to take part in the 2023 Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Directed by Maryam Bahrololoumi, the film will be among the 23 global titles to be on screen at the Woman Filmmaker program of the Bangladeshi event’s 21st edition.

‘Urgent Cut Off’ is the story of a young couple through the COVID-19 pandemic in Tehran. One night during the widespread disease, an earthquake shakes Tehran.

Saman Saffari, Afsaneh Kamali, Ghazal Nazar, Ali Kian-Ersi, Mohammad-Rasoul Safari, Yasaman Torabi, Sadia Jalalipour, Sogol Tahmasebi, Shaqayeq Farahani, Roshanak Ajamian and late Ali Ansarian are among the cast members of the flick.

The 7th Art film company is in charge of the film’s international distribution.

Since 1977, the DIFF has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society”.

Some 200 films from 60 countries compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The festival’s website states the “DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry”.

The 21st edition of Dhaka fest is scheduled for January 14-22, 2023.
