Dhaka filmfest awards Iranian ‘Motherless’

Iranian film ‘Motherless’ has won an award at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

Iranian film ‘Motherless’ has won an award at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

The film directed by Morteza Fatemi, grabbed the Best Film Award at the 21st edition of the event.

A lineup of over 250 films represented their countries at the festival.

“The film is about the peaceful life of a couple, which, when one of them pressures his decision, inadvertently enters into trials and dilemmas and moral dangers. One does not gain anything unless they lose something, and every decision has a price that must be paid,” a short synopsis of the film reads.

Amir Aghaee, Mitra Hajjar, Pejman Jamshidi and Pardis Pourabedini star in the film.

Since 1977, the DIFF has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society”.

Some 200 films from 60 countries compete at the DIFF in the following categories: Asian Competition Section, Retrospective, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children’s Film, Short and Independent Film, Women Filmmakers Section, and Spiritual Films Section.

The festival’s website states that the “DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry”.

The 2023 edition of the event took place in the Bangladeshi capital from January 14 to 22.
