It was named after Ammar Yasir, a close companion of the Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].

During the first edition of the festival, 20 works were displayed in thirty regions of Iran, including several villages. Most of these works were amateur and lacked the characteristics of a cinematic artwork.
Some of the works were recorded with multi-megapixel cameras and simple mobile phones, and this attention to the villagers and various sections of the society made this festival popular among the people very soon.
People's acceptance of this festival increased and 320 films were sent to the secretariat and the films were screened in 300 regions of the country.
