Iranian movies attract people in Greece: Costopoulos

Greek filmmaker Alexandros Costopoulos says people in Greece are big fans of Iranian films because of the “emotional connection” between the people of the two countries.

Greek filmmaker Alexandros Costopoulos says people in Greece are big fans of Iranian films because of the “emotional connection” between the people of the two countries.

Speaking in an interview with Mehr News Agency, Costopoulos said Greek people watch many Iranian films as their emotions are similar to those of the Iranians.

“In my country, many Iranian films are shown. Whether at cinemas or on Video on demand (VOD) platforms, Iranian films are shown and Greek people know Iranian films very well. We are emotionally connected with Iran’s people. Although our culture differs from that of the Iranian nation, we are emotionally connected.”

The director also noted that the Iranian films attract the Greek audience because those movies revolve around human relations.

Costopoulos, who is serving as a member of the jury at the 13th edition of International 100-Second Film Festival that is currently underway in Iran, hailed the festival as a good opportunity for young filmmakers.

He also noted that most of the films taking part in the event are of high quality.
