Thousands of free meals distributed in Shiraz: Photos

Thousands of free Iftar meals are distributed among fasting Muslims in Shiraz.

Thousands of free iftar meals have been distributed among fasting Muslims in Iran’s Shiraz.

Some 11,000 free iftar meals are being distributed among fasting people in Shiraz daily, with the efforts of Shiraz municipality and charitable people.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset.

The worshippers break their fast with the evening meal called “iftar”.

Ramadan sees charitable people distributing free food among others, especially the needy.

Worshippers also go to mosques and holy sites to recite the Holy Quran and make supplications to Allah during the holy month.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the lunar calendar, is the month when the first verses of the Holy Quran were revealed to Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The act of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan is aimed at reminding people of the impoverished people and their suffering.
